Individual Counseling

Counseling For You

Choosing to see a counselor is a very personal decision.  Sometimes, counseling can be very difficult at first.  Therapy sessions can stir up emotions that the psyche has been working diligently for years to suppress, control, or project onto someone else. Your therapist will encourage you to take a very close look at yourself, your situation(s) and the types of relationships that you invite in or exclude from your life.  These reflections can be surprising, and sometimes even painful.

In therapy, you also may be asked to take a deep and honest look into your past to try to understand how early events shaped the lens that you view the world through.  This lens is what creates your current reality and influences many aspects of your life, including your view of self. During counseling, you can begin to reshape that lens to better align with who you are now and how you want your future to look.

Despite the fact that counseling can be challenging at first, the rewards of therapy are innumerable and often life-changing.  Having a skilled counselor to work with you is one of the best gifts you can give to yourself.  Not only can counseling help you strengthen and maintain your mental and emotional health, it can also promote greater intimacy, authenticity and satisfaction in your life.

In addition to working through problems like trauma, anxiety or depression, people come to see me to:

  • Learn to feel, understand and/or express their emotions
  • Heal from narcissistic abuse and/or emotional abuse
  • Better understand their relationship to self
  • Better navigate their relationships with others (either through individual or couple counseling)
  • Heal from complex PTSD (cPTSD) and other traumas
  • Develop life skills
  • Increase self-esteem and self-love
  • Explore the meaning and purpose of their lives
  • Learn to create and maintain healthy boundaries
  • Better understand how their past impacts their present
  • Process betrayal
  • Change self-defeating behaviors/habits
  • Find validation and support
  • Process grief
  • Develop personal and professional goals
  • Learn to communicate and socialize better
  • Heal from abandonment or rejection
  • Better navigate life transitions
  • Break unhealthy habits
  • Overcome shame

I’m skilled at helping people navigate their biggest emotional hurdles in order to promote better overall health.  I guide people so that they can successfully understand and master the ways in which all of the experiences of their lives interact and influence their well-being.  I help people heal their psychological scars, strengthen their sense of self, overcome their self-limiting beliefs and re-empower their lives.  Individual counseling can be a really potent and wonderful experience.
