My life is guided by the belief that all living things have value and deserve compassion. I’m originally from the Midwest. I moved to Oregon in 1994 to obtain a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and Environmental Science
I then went on to get my Ph.D. in molecular biology. I worked as a research scientist and adjunct biology professor. I eventually discovered that, although I love science, my life was becoming consumed by my career. It wasn’t as meaningful as I wanted it to be. It was at that point that I decided to dial back on science and pursue something I felt more passionate about.
I obtained my Masters degree in Counseling from Portland State University, with a specialty in Marital, Couple and Family Therapy, which has enriched my life. I have been certified by the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC). I have additional, long-term training in Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples, Emotionally Focused Therapy for Individuals, Internal Family Systems, EMDR , Interpersonal Neurobiology, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and the Gottman Method.
I have been able to help many individuals, families, and couples create healthier, more satisfying relationships with themselves and others. It is a profound experience to witness the ways in which people are able to overcome their struggles and empower themselves. It brings me great satisfaction to be able to help others make permanent positive changes in their lives and in their relationships. I grow and learn from each of my clients and have the utmost respect and admiration for their courage and commitment to heal.
I taught Biology courses at the college level for nearly two decades. I’ve discovered that my knowledge of both psychology and biology provides me with unique and powerful tools as a counselor. In fact, I strongly believe in the Interpersonal Neurobiology concept of “inspire to rewire” the brain via a supportive and nurturing therapeutic relationship.
The things I believe most in include family/friends, animals, nature, love, compassion, and kindness.
